The Music of Leo Rowsome: Music for the Irish Pipes Volume VI is the latest publication from Na Píobairí Uilleann. This new book is a comprehensive collection of music transcribed from recordings of Leo Rowsome and spans a period of more than forty years, from the 1960s to the 2010s. The book features 236 tunes transcribed by Joe Doyle.
Leo Rowsome was unrivalled for his all-round contribution to the uilleann piping tradition in the 20th Century. As a performer, teacher and pipemaker, Leo Rowsome's influence on uilleann piping is immeasurable.
Leo's distinctive playing style utilised the full capabilities of the uilleann pipes, displaying his skilled mastery of the instrument, Leo's many distinguished students included Seán Seery, Paddy Moloney and Liam O'Flynn. As an uilleann pipemaker, Leo Rowsome's pipes are still considered to be amongst the finest examples of the instrument. The distinctive tone of Rowsome's pipes continue to influence and inspire the work of contemporary uilleann pipemakers.
The music contained in this collection is transcribed from both commercial and non-commercial recordings of Leo Rowsome and spans a period of more than forty years, from the 1920s to the 1960s. Joe Doyle draws on years of dedicated listening and playing to transcribe the music of Leo Rowsome.
